Chapter 11 & 12 : Motion and Forces
This unit is about Newton's 3 Laws, speed, velocity, acceleration, friction and momentum. We will look at how an object will interact when it has multiply forces acting upon it.
State Standards:
H2P4: Apply the laws of motion and gravitation to describe the interaction of forces acting on an object and the resultant motion.

Calculate: Speed, Acceleration, and Momentum (on the test)
Speed: S=Distance/ Time ( for harder problems download the Distance/Speed/Time worksheet)
You went 40 meters in 2 min........ S = 40m/2 min....... = 20 m/min
Acceleration: (Final Velocity - Initial Velocity) / Time (for harder problems download the acceleration worksheet)
You started from rest and finished with a final velocity of 40 m/s, it took 10 sec. What is your acceleration?
A = (40 m/s - 0 m/s) / 10 sec = 40 m/s / 10 sec = 4 m/s/s ( you started from rest, so initial velocity is zero).
Momentum: Mo = Mass * Velocity
You have a mass of 80 kg and you are running at 3 m/s....what is your momentum?
Mo = 80 kg * 3 m/s = 240 kg*m/s
